A world-wide operating brewing company contacted us to examine the options for measuring and analysing brewing loss which amounted to seven percent of the malt being processed. Reducing that huge number could mean a impressive business case for a data warehouse. This data warehouse would gather all measurements of the brewing process to form the basis for analysis of the losses along the way.
After an intensive analysis, it became clear that the gauges where not reliable enough to produce meaningful results. Ergo, we advised the controller and his management to improve on the gauges and reduce the measure errors to a –here not disclosed- number before investing in a data warehouse.
